Viruses - An overview

Anyone who uses the internet or emails is potentially at risk of downloading a virus into their system. They manifest themselves in many forms. Some may just cause pop-up boxes to appear on screen from time to time and are little more than an annoyance. Others can be a lot more sinister and can damage personal data or, in the most extreme cases, even render the operating system completely useless.

A common type of virus at the moment is a rogue anti-virus. This is a virus that pretends to be anti-virus software. It will tell you over and over again that you have various different types of viruses. It will also tell you how sinister these viruses are and then ask you to buy a product to get rid of them. These viruses actually over-ride the computers existing security systems and make you extremely vulnerable to other viruses.
Other types of viruses can and do appear in email attachments, websites, free software, illegal software, and more besides.

Removal

PerTech can, in most cases, remove the virus that is causing the problem and then check any anti-virus software that is on the machine. In more extreme cases there may be a need to remove the hard drive from the system and plug it into another machine to remove the threats.
